Alicia has been providing personal care since 2006, when she became a certified nursing assistant through a program with Old Dominion in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 2009, through Workforce Development at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia, she earned her administrative assistant certificate. In 2013, Alicia provided one-on-one care for her partner’s mother in her home. Her partner’s mother’s name was Ethel Mae Cooper and Alicia credits her with sealing her future in providing outstanding personal care.
Alicia says that Mrs. Cooper helped her to realize that her heart and her passion is in providing personal care for our elderly in our community. Alicia’s consistent goal is to do so with the respect and loving attention that they deserve. When Mrs. Cooper passed away in 2016, Alicia completed another program in certified nursing assistance with Riverside Medical Training in Newport News, Virginia. It was here that a fire was born in Alicia to be at the top of her class as the best certified nursing assistant, excelling in all areas. Following graduation, Alicia worked for the Riverside PACE program in Hampton, Virginia. PACE stands for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. Alicia fell in love with the participants in the program, feeling that she and the participants were family. For Alicia, it was as if she were providing care for her own family.
Following her time with the Riverside PACE program, she worked with Sentara Home Care in Newport News & Williamsburg, Virginia. The nurses and therapists who worked with Alicia found her to be an extremely valuable asset to the team. Alicia could enter the home of a patient who was struggling with changes in their life and feeling hopeless and have them laughing and singing songs with her as she cared for their personal needs. It was as if she brought sunshine and smiles with her everywhere she went and her clients and her colleagues adored her!
Alicia later worked for Williamsburg Landing Home Care and came to realize that she could blaze her own trail walking into a home with empathy, gratitude, kindness and care for the vulnerability of an elderly person in need of very personal care. She chose to be a leader among CNA’s, establishing a standard of excellence in caring for her clients and their families, not just in attending to their personal care needs, but also in impacting their lives overall in positive ways. In addition to personal care, one might find Alicia cleaning up their home, cooking, shopping, playing games, dancing, singing… whatever brings them joy!
Heartfelt Loving Private Home Care was born out of these standards and ideals. The care Alicia provides to her clients comes from her heart. Alicia has an upbeat positive attitude and a standard of excellence that places her at the top of her field.
